Markets Await Global PMIs This Evening

AUD

The Aussie dollar opens mixed against the majors this morning while the ASX finished yesterday's session -0.8% with Energy and Materials falling 3.0% and 2.3% respectively. Asian equities opened the week in the red with the Shenzhen dropping 1.0% and the Nikkei down 0.8%. Tonight, RBA Gov Bullock is due to discuss how the rise of interest rates are slowing the economy but continuing events, such as the Israel-Gaza war, risk keeping inflation and interest rates higher for longer. Tomorrow we also have CPI y/y which is expected to increase from 5.2% to 5.4% and the q/q expected to print at 1.1% from 0.8%

USD

AUDUSD opens slightly higher this morning at 0.6334 with Wall St. starting out the week mostly lower with the Dow Jones closing the session -0.6%, the S&P 500 -0.2%, and the NASDAQ up 0.3%. Tonight, we'll see U.S Flash Manufacturing and Services PMIs with both expected to decrease slightly from their previous print. We have a few pieces of major data throughout the week for the U.S with Advance GDP q/q and Unemployment claims being printed tomorrow evening at 11:30pm.

EUR

AUDEUR opens in the red this morning dropping deeper into the 0.59s, sitting at 0.5938. European equities closed the session mixed with the DAX closing flat and the CAC up 0.5%. A handful of major data out of the Eurozone today with French Manufacturing and Services PMIs expected to increase from 44.2 and 44.4 to 44.4 and 44.9 respectively. The German Flash Manufacturing PMI is expected to increase from 39.6 to 40.1 and Flash Services expected to decrease from 50.3 to 50.1. This Thursday we have the Eurozone Main Refinancing Rate which is expected to hold again at 4.50%.

GBP

AUDGBP also opens in the red this morning at 0.5174 with the FTSE finishing the session -0.4%. The GBP Flash Manufacturing and Services PMIs are also to be printed tonight at 7:30pm, both expected to increase slight to 44.7 and 49.4 respectively. A quiet week following for the GBP with a handful of low-tier data being printed throughout the week.

NZD

AUDNZD opens higher this morning at 1.0837. Yesterday was a bank holiday in New Zealand and a quiet week ahead for the NZD with no data out until this Friday where we have the RBNZ Statement of Intent.
