Payment networks – you have options
Within the global payments landscape, the two most common payment networks are the SWIFT network and the use of Automated Clearing Houses (ACH).
SWIFT Payments
Completing an international payment through your bank has traditionally been synonymous with sending payments via the SWIFT network. An efficient way to send large value payments in almost any currency, to almost anywhere. While far reaching and dependable, SWIFT can also be an expensive way to send payments overseas, often attracting intermediary fees which can result in payments arriving short. It could cost you up to $60 in transaction fees from your own bank before it even leaves the country.
With the ever growing digital revolution upon us, we’ve seen huge increases in the volume of payments sent around the world, but the value of each payment has dramatically decreased. For a business sending small payments a few times a week or month, paying large fees can severely hurt profit margins.
ACH Payments – Local networks
As the most affordable method of getting a payment from A to B, local payment channels were established to move smaller amounts of money more efficiently. ACH payment usually don’t require the use of intermediaries and thus these local, low-value payment channels enable you to send payments at a fraction of the price when sending payments to customers and suppliers in their local currency.
Where possible, utilising an ever growing network of local payment options can make payments arriving short a nuisance of the past.
